Is Queen Latifah stupid or greedy? Or both?

I have watched with mild fascination, the career of Queen Latifah. And by career, I mean, how she is portrayed through the media. I am not a fan of rap. So her music holds no interest for me.

As an overweight, black, female rapper she represents so many minorities that the mere fact that she was in the public eye was somewhat of a surprise.

I dont know if she has declared her sexuality, but she strikes me as a dyke.

She has always seemed well spoken and socially concious.

That facade started to crumble a couple of years ago. As a spokesperson for CoverGirl, she put the idea of her, as a real personality, and not a product to be consumed, in jeopardy. The idea that an overweight, black, female rapper has let Proctor & Gamble gloss over her image to sell to midwestern white Beckys is horrifying to say the least.

As a "personality" in the GAP ads with Madonna, she showed her business sensibilities and she further cemented the notion of legitimacy, or street credit having taken a back seat to profitablility.

Now as a spokesperson for WalMart, she has relieved herself of all credibility.

As a voice that can speak to large numbers of underserved people, I think it is incumbent upon her to do her homework and know who it is that is feeding her. This last move wreaks of stupidty and greed.

What I don't understand is why not one of her constituents has raised a voice in anger.

Her fellow rap artists are more than likely not sold at WalMart, because of the foul language and the violence that they preach. Yet any yahoo can walk into WalMart and purchase a gun.

Is Queen Latifah still keeping it real? What is her point of reference on real now a days? Does she know how WalMart treats their employees? Is she aware of how damaging WalMart is to small towns?

It's time the Queen checked herself. She has sold out her people to greedy white christians and has made a fool of herself in the process.
