America — The Crumbling of an Empire

John Roberts has been sworn in as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. The glaze in this man's eyes, is frightening to say the least. There is nothing fair or impartial about that look. There is nothing fair and impartial about who nominated him to this position. There was nothing fair or impartial about what the American people had to say about this. Because, really, we had nothing to say about it.

And on to Sandra Day O'Connor. Miss O'Connor had the rare opportunity to go down in history as one of the few women, in this ridiculous, testosterone-driven, pissing match in the sandbox, that we refer to as global politics, who could have made a difference. Yet she chose to retire, while one of the most disrespectful, ignorant, stupid, dangerous and deceitful administrations is doing it's best to ensure that fear and hatred are the biggest mobilizing force in the world. Really, how tiring and taxing can it be to be a supreme court judge? Would four more years be that much to ask of her? The amount of time that these Justices call a days work, compared to what most American do, to not make ends meet, now a days, is such a cake walk. Again, I have to say there is nothing fair and impartial about her decision. It reeks of partisanship, of greed and of selfishness and to the fact that the constitution, which she is supposed to be upholding, has taken a back seat to her own vested interests. She speaks to the fact that the people are no longer being represented.

Why are the American people allowing themselves to be shaken down by this administration? If this administration at one point or another had said that this war in Iraq needed to be fought because we do not want the middle east dictating to us what our economy will be like, given our huge dependence on their natural resources, that would at least been somewhat understandable. However this administration at every step of the way has engaged in subterfuge, innuendo and flat out lied to us. Yet gasoline prices have sky-rocketed anyway. And it has nothing to do with the war overseas. This is all about greed, and unethical behavior being rewarded in terms that this corporate oligarchy has lain out for us.

It is not just the East Coast and the hallowed walls of this government that are leading to the downfall of this empire. Hollywood and Madison Avenue play just as big a role. In fact I think they play the role of (sometimes) unknowing and (sometimes) unwitting executioner. Both of these institutions perpetuate the land of make believe. I for one, have long outgrown Mr. Rogers. Acceptance in two dimensions is pedestrian at best, yet some of the most sophisticated minds of our times cannot wrap their heads around this. Meanwhile, Nero keeps fiddling.

The news a couple of days ago ran a story about a 10 year old who was being suspended for bringing a butter knife to school in his back pack. His parents were going to keep him home from school, until this was expunged from his permanent record. His parents went on to say, that most likely his younger brother had placed the butter knife in his bag, without him knowing.

Where are the hard hitting journalists who pose the questions? Why hasn't someone asked how we can expect a 10 year old to be held responsible for something he allegedly didn't do, while the people who are in charge of the course, that history decides to take a drive down, will not be held accountable for any of their actions? This administration, lies point blank to the cameras. Meanwhile they let young soldiers take their bitter medicine, called justice, on an empty stomach. Should a twenty something solider be held responsible, for their heinous acts against humanity, when their teachers and champions do the same thing, but leave them holding the bag, when the piper comes a calling? If we are to lead by example, we have another century of soulless, apathetic treachery ahead of us, at least.

I understand bottom lines. I understand having resolve.

None of what this administration is doing falls under either of those titles. What they are doing is sending young American men and women off to die, so that their cozy little cliques of have-mores, stay that way for generations to come. What they are doing is so far away from anything that is commendable or worthy of honor. These people are treacherous. They are stealing the tax dollars of hard working Americans to finance their war. They should be tried for high treason. But where are the people who are in power to do this? As a registered Democrat, I am loathe to say this. But the Democrats in power, are just as responsible, if not even more so, than the Republicans. I was one of their constituents. But the double talking, tap dancing, spineless way in which they conduct themselves, has left a bitter taste in my mouth. It wreaks of self loathing to be a Democrat. You have no representation, in fact all you get for voting as a Democrat is jury duty, in a legal system that can be bought and sold to the highest bidder.

At the end of the day, I don't have an answer as to what I am supposed to do. I don't know who to look up to. I can't do anything, but speak to the frailty of man, sound the alarm that this was not supposed to be America's role. We need people in places of authority who have integrity. People who understand that the Constitution, is one of the last, best things that man has given to this world. People who can see beyond the sophomoric ideas of black and white, wrong or right, good or bad. We need to stand up and be counted. Show our own resolve in what we think America is. Otherwise America, which I was raised in and love, runs the risk of crumbling before our very eyes.
